For our first ‘Christmas with Vasari’ since 2019, we are really delighted to be singing a carol concert packed, in time-honoured fashion, with old favourites and new music. The mood of the concert is both joyous (Rathbone, Chilcott) and contemplative (Morten Lauridsen, Will Todd) as upbeat arrangements of familiar tunes sit alongside more gentle fare. Lullabies abound, including settings by Howells, Rutter and Emily Hazrati. The centrepiece is Vaughan Williams’s ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’ (complete with baritone and cello solos) to mark the 150th anniversary of that composer’s birth. And at last we get to share with you for the first time live Helena Paish’s ‘Music on Christmas Morning’, which we commissioned before the pandemic struck. It will be wonderful to return to St Paul’s Covent Garden on Friday 16th December to rekindle the magic of the traditional ‘Christmas with Vasari’.
